Public encouraged to take part in summer turkey survey

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is inviting the public to participate in its annual summer turkey survey July 1-Aug. 31. The survey provides useful estimates about annual production by wild turkey hens and how many poults, or young turkeys, survive the summer brood-rearing period. These records and observations inform management decisions regarding wild turkeys, their population size and habitat needs. Learn how to join Madison County City Nature Challenge

A City Nature Challenge is coming to Madison County this spring. Groups in the county can learn how to participate by joining a virtual meeting at 4 p.m. Feb. 23. The City Nature Challenge, run by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, is a global event motivating people to find and document wildlife in and around their cities; participants record their observations using an app or an online platform, such as iNaturalist. …

LINCOLN, Neb. – Contributors to Lincoln’s 2020 City Nature Challenge entered 1,675 observations of wildlife and plants, of which 508 individual species were identified, in the iNaturalist project over four days this spring. Lincoln and Lancaster County, for the first time, joined 243 other cities for the City Nature Challenge, a global event to observe and record all signs of nature and wildlife.
