Game and Parks receives NET grant for Natural Legacy Project

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will receive $55,000 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust for the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project: New Approaches to Biodiversity Conservation. This is the first year of the award, with a potential for second- and third-year funding totaling $315,000 and $200,000 respectively. The Nebraska Natural Legacy Project has applied strategic conservation to restore at-risk species since it was federally approved in 2005. Game and Parks receives Nebraska Environmental Trust grant for Trout in the Classroom

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will receive $34,940 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust for the Trout in the Classroom project. Trout in the Classroom is an environmental education program that allows students to learn about aquatic resources within a framework of hatching and raising rainbow trout. The project is one of the 117 projects receiving $19,501,444 in grant awards from the Trust this year. Of these, 85 were new applications and 32 are carry-over projects. Game and Parks accepting Trout in the Classroom applications

LINCOLN, Neb. – Applications for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Trout in the Classroom curriculum program are being accepted through Aug. 24. Certified teachers are encouraged to take part in this innovative program that brings a fish hatchery into the classroom. Students in grades 2 through 12 can learn about aquatic habitat, water quality, ecosystem interactions, food webs, and life cycles, while hatching and raising rainbow trout. Game and Parks Awarded Grant for Crop Stubble

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Environmental Trust has awarded $1.5 million to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to enroll tall wheat and milo stubble into the Crop Stubble Management, Wildlife and Water Conservation Program for three years. The program will be offered in the Upper Niobrara-White, North Platte, South Platte, Twin Platte, Upper Republican, Middle Republican, Tri-Basin and Lower Republican natural resource districts (NRD) in southern and western Nebraska.
