LINCOLN, Neb. – Mormon Island State Recreation Area, near Grand Island in Hall County reopened its campground June 12 as part of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s continuing effort to restore park opportunities and amenities across the state. Brush pile to be burned at Mormon Island SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – A brush pile of storm-damaged trees will be burned at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Hall County on Jan. 22. The burn, which will begin at about 7 a.m., will eliminate fuels and small predator habitat and keep the area open for continued tree management.

Mormon Island SRA temporarily closed because of storm damage

LINCOLN, Neb. – Mormon Island State Recreation Area is temporarily closed because of damage caused by a storm early Aug. 7. Winds of 87 mph and damaging hail were reported in the area of the park, located 3 miles north of Doniphan in Hall County, and surrounding communities. Mormon Island is closed to public access until park staff can clear roadways and remove dangerous trees from the area.

Mormon Island SRA reopens after flood waters recede

LINCOLN, Neb. – Mormon Island State Recreation Area near Doniphan has reopened to the public. Late last week, an ice jam on the Platte River led to flooding in parts of the recreation area, and the campground lost power. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission officials on Feb. 3 closed the area until further notice. LINCOLN – Mormon Island State Recreation Area (SRA) south of Grand Island cannot be accessed via Exit 312 on eastbound Interstate 80 due to construction. The westbound exit is open, however. According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, the eastbound exit ramp will be closed for road construction for three weeks. Westbound I-80 Exit 312 to Mormon Island SRA Temporarily Closed

LINCOLN – Mormon Island State Recreation Area (SRA) south of Grand Island temporarily cannot be accessed via Exit 312 on westbound Interstate 80. According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, that exit ramp will be closed for road construction for three weeks.
