Maximilian-Bodmer Show at the Great Plains Art Museum

When Prince Maximilian contracted the services of artist Karl Bodmer to join him on a 2,500 mile expedition through North America in 1832, a masterful narrative of the existence of the Plains Indian was created.  Their two year travels would culminate in a journey up the Missouri River via steam ship, then keel boat, where stops at camps and trading posts gave Bodmer the opportunity to recreate village scenes, landscapes and portraits of the Plains Indians in remarkable watercolor detail. …

Good Sticks

In my work I meet a lot of people (many of you will have to forgive me, because I cannot remember everyone; never hesitate to remind me if you have met me before).  Most of the folks I interact with are Nebraskans and of course are fishermen and fisherwomen.  I was talking to one last weekend.  He started showing me fish pictures, and then commented that I probably get tired of seeing fish pictures.  Are you kidding?  I love seeing …

Thank You!

I am thrilled whenever I hear about folks taking ownership in our natural resources.  Yes, I work as a fisheries biologist for the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission and we are responsible for the stewardship of the state’s fisheries resources, but I will always tell you that those resources belong to you!  They belong to the people, they are your resources, my resources.  I have said before that I do not care how big or how little the project or …

Adventure Report, June 5, 2013

A couple of months ago I warned that I would be “out of the office” as much as possible.  Well, I have been; have enjoyed this spring immensely.  In fact I have enjoyed it so much that I have not given a fishing report recently.  Time to get caught up. . . . Lewis & Clark To start, I have to go back a couple weeks, back before the Memorial Day holiday.  Some of the Nebraska Walleye Association folks, http://www.nebraskawalleye.com/ …

A Plug for the CRP

I ALWAYS like to get a plug in for the USDA’s Conservation Reserve Program when there is a sign up period happening for it. In fact, we are in the midst of one right now and it continues through June 14th! Let me tell you, in today’s world, there is no other conservation program that has done so much for habitat on such a broad scale for so many different wildlife species than the CRP. I know first hand as …
