Work on Main Ramp Area at Merritt SRA now set to begin June 27

A repair project at the Main Ramp Area at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area has been pushed back slightly. Users of that area should be aware of repairs there that will result in temporary closures. Originally scheduled for June 22-24, the contractor now has rescheduled the work for June 27-29. Users of the Main Ramp Area at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area should be aware of repairs there June 22-24 that will result in temporary closures. Construction to begin for Merritt Reservoir breakwater

VALENTINE, Neb. — A new breakwater planned at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area will protect a nearby boat launch and shoreline. The construction project is scheduled to begin this month as workers capitalize on the low water levels at the Sandhills irrigation reservoir. The new breakwater of rock and soil will extend northwesterly from the Willow Cove area at the northeast part of the lake. LINCOLN, Neb. – Jaron Cooper and Keegan Oettinger of the Platte Valley Bassmasters team caught a five-fish limit weighing 15.88 pounds to capture the The Bass Federation – Nebraska High School Fishing Championship on July 12 at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area. Cooper caught the tournament’s biggest fish at 4.55 pounds. LINCOLN, Neb. – High school anglers still have time to register for two fishing tournaments coming up in July at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area. The tournaments – the Nebraska BASS Nation High School Tournament and the TBF Student Angler Federation High School Tournament – are scheduled for July 21 and 22 respectively, making it easy for students to compete in both. Merritt Reservoir boat ramp project postponed

LINCOLN – The boat launch facility construction project scheduled to start this fall at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area has been postponed because of higher than expected reservoir water levels. Water levels at Merritt this summer did not drop low enough to reach the level needed for construction. Construction will be attempted again in the late summer or early fall of 2017. Valentine Game and Parks Maintenance Office to Close

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has opted not to renew its lease for the Valentine Maintenance office. The office, located at 420 E. 1st St. in Valentine, will close immediately. Game and Parks plans to move the office to Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area southwest of Valentine. Parks Division offices will be temporarily moved to the Valentine Fish Hatchery.
