Big, Big Weekend

P5250023

Like many of you, I am out the door for the long, Memorial Day weekend!  Time for a short blog post before I go. . . . Fish are biting.  I know there will be a lot of folks “wet a line” this weekend, and they should!  I have often said that May and June are two of the best months for fishing open-water in Nebraska.  We are right in the middle of that now, a variety of species are …

Summer Kick-Off

IMG_1645a

It is the eve of the Memorial Day weekend; the unofficial, official start to summer.  I know many of you have big plans for the weekend, camping, boating, picnicking, and yes, of course, FISHING!  We are right in the middle of May-June, some of the best fishing of the year, every year, on waters all over the state for a variety of species.  Simply put, right now, do not ask where, do not ask what baits, do not pass “GO”, …

My thoughts also drift to my son-in-law, Tyler Nichols of Omaha, NE. Tyler is currently serving with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. Tyler and …

Is the new boat ramp at Burchard open yet?

One of the most popular questions in my office this week is the one that titles this blog post.  Folks assume that since it has been raining, the new boat ramp at Burchard must be open already: Burchard Lake filling slowly– boat ramp remains closed An aquatic habitat rehabilitation project at Burchard Reservoir a couple of years ago required an 11-foot draw down to repair the outlet structure.  During the project, enough water remained in the reservoir to maintain the …
