Fort Atkinson event to include Air Force flyover, Native American demonstrations

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in Fort Calhoun have long enjoyed the park’s rich tradition of living history. During an Aug. 4-5 event, visitors also will get to see something new for the park: an Air Force flyover and Native American dancers. LINCOLN, Neb. – The War of 1812 and its connection to Fort Atkinson State Historical Park will be the theme of a living history event June 2-3. Two displays will be available at the Harold W. LINCOLN – Visitors can tour Fort Atkinson State Historical Park guided by an archaeologist during Living History Weekend Sept. 3-4. Nebraska State Historical Society Archaeologist Nolan Johnson will lead the tours in celebration of Archaeology Month. Tours start at 12:30 p.m. each day at the Powder Magazine. LINCOLN – Enjoy a weekend of fun, history and patriotism with the Spirit of the Plains living history weekend Aug. 27-28 at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. LINCOLN – Volunteers will portray life at an 1820s military post Aug. 6-7 during Fort Atkinson State Historical Park’s Living History Weekend.
