Lake Minatare SRA reopens to the public

LINCOLN, Neb. — Lake Minatare State Recreation Area has reopened to the public, effective immediately. The recreation area, home to the Panhandle’s largest body of water, recently was closed after a waterfowl die-off was reported March 12. Staff immediately responded, began collecting the birds and sent some to be tested for cause of death. The lab results received March 26 indicated the cause of the event was of low risk to public health. All of the dead waterfowl, primarily Canada …

Lake Minatare closed to the public until further notice

LINCOLN, Neb. — Lake Minatare State Recreation Area is closed to the public until further notice after a waterfowl die-off was reported to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on March 12. Staff immediately responded and are collecting the waterfowl, which will be tested for cause of death. A winter storm also is expected to affect the area over the weekend. Colorado boy hurt in Lake Minatare boating accident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A 9-year-old Colorado boy was hospitalized with serious injuries following a boating accident July 3 at Lake Minatare in Scotts Bluff County. The boy was taken by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Scottsbluff radio station KNEB reported the boy was later transferred to a Denver hospital. The boat operator, who is from Briggsdale, Colorado, is the grandfather of the victim. Conservation officers were notified of the accident just before 1:30 p.m. Witness statements indicated …
