Spring Wipers

Back to Squeezing

Join Game and Parks for Birding at Lake McConaughy

LINCOLN, Neb. – Birders of all experience levels are invited to participate in Southwest District Birding Day with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on Sept. 12 at Lake McConaughy. Participants will meet at the lake’s visitor center parking lot at 6 a.m. The group will observe birds around McConaughy and Lake Ogallala until 10 a.m. Persons interested in participating should contact Game and Parks’ T.J. Walker at thomas.walker@nebraska.gov. They should wear appropriate clothing and may bring binoculars.

Lake McConaughy Visitors Reminded to Share Sand with Terns and Plovers

LINCOLN, Neb. – Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area’s (SRA) visitors are being reminded to give interior least terns and piping plovers their space as beaches will become crowded over the upcoming holiday weekends. “It is a critical period for these birds because not only are some pairs still on nests, but other pairs are tending to broods,” said Colby Johnson, Lake McConaughy Park Superintendent. “Park visitors can help protect the birds and ensure that we can strike the right balance …
