Commission to consider changes to fisheries regulations at Kearney meeting

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider proposed changes to fisheries regulations and orders when it meets Oct. 26 in Kearney. Many of the changes, including those to trout, northern pike and bullfrog orders, would result in increased fishing opportunities for Nebraskans. Bassway Strip WMA kayak landing improvements completed

LINCOLN, Neb. – Improvements recently completed at Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area enhance access to the Platte River’s north channel for canoeists and kayakers. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission enlarged, reshaped and surfaced with river rock an existing primitive boat landing to facilitate easier and safer river access. In addition, a parking area was expanded and resurfaced with gravel. The improved launch site also provides emergency responders quicker access to the river. The canoe and kayak landing is located …

LINCOLN – The Discover Ice Fishing on-ice clinic scheduled for Jan. 16 at Kearney’s Yanney Lake has been canceled because of a lack of safe ice. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will not reschedule the clinic. Still scheduled is the Nebraska Fish and Game Association’s classroom clinic at Yanney Heritage Park’s Environmental Resource Center, 2020 W. 11th St., from 8 a.m. – noon. Registration is requested. Public Meeting in Kearney to Discuss Tree Removal

LINCOLN – A public meeting will be held in Kearney on July 29 to discuss invasive tree removal for upland game bird and other game management on Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area. The meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. at the Environmental Resource Center Building in Yanney Heritage Park, located at 2020 W. 11th St. Discussion will focus on removal of invasive eastern red cedar trees and grey dogwood to benefit bobwhite quail, deer, turkey and other wildlife species.
