LINCOLN, Neb. – A health alert for harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae, has been issued for Calamus Reservoir in Loup and Garfield counties, Johnson Lake in Gosper and Dawson counties and Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County. Elwood ice fishermen should use caution during pumping

LINCOLN — The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District has resumed pumping operations into Elwood Reservoir as part of efforts to utilize excess flows in the Platte River for groundwater recharge in and adjacent to Central’s irrigation service area. Central reminds people who use the lake for winter recreation that ice conditions can be affected by rising water levels as more water is pumped into the lake. LINCOLN – The public is invited to attend the Johnson Lake Angler Access Project Dedication on Aug. 15 at the Gosper County lake’s inlet. The dedication ceremony is set for 11 a.m. A family fishing clinic will take place from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The project was initiated by Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioner Lynn Berggren of Broken Bow and completed in memory of his father, Myron Berggren, and his uncle, Oliver Berggren. Johnson Lake Angler Access Project to be Dedicated The public is invited to a dedication of a renovated ADA-accessible fishing area at Johnson Lake State Recreation Area on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. The area will be named for Myron Berggren and Oliver Berggren.
