Rebuilt boardwalk at Indian Cave State Park now open

Indian Cave State Park’s iconic cave, home to prehistoric Native American petroglyphs, is accessible to the public again now that construction of a new boardwalk and viewing deck is complete. The old boardwalk was unusable after a historic bomb cyclone in March 2019 saturated the area and caused a landslide. Missouri River access closed at Indian Cave State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – Low water levels along the Missouri River have prompted the closure of the Indian Cave State Park boat ramp in southeast Nebraska. The park near Shubert has one concrete boat ramp offering access to the river. At this time, water levels are too low for safe use. Daily water level fluctuations will occur, but low water conditions likely will continue through the winter. Boardwalk construction to begin at Indian Cave State Park

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Construction will begin Sept. 20 at Indian Cave State Park to replace the boardwalk that was damaged by landslides in 2019. Flooding at that time caused numerous landslides and resulted in the removal of a section of the boardwalk leading up to the cave that bears prehistoric Native American petroglyphs. LINCOLN, Neb. – Improvements at Pawnee State Recreation Area are just some of the upgrades guests at southeastern Nebraska state park areas will find this spring. LINCOLN, Neb. – Repairs begin this week on the boat ramp area at Indian Cave State Park, including silt removal, guardrail replacement and repairing the riprap along the banks of the area.
