Deer hunting prospects looking good for 2017

LINCOLN, Neb. – Excitement and anticipation are building for Nebraskans as the Nov. 11 opener of firearm deer season approaches. Deer populations for 2017 are higher for mule deer and about the same for whitetails. Favorable habitat and weather conditions this past year should provide for good fawn production and good survival of adults and fawns. Big Game Conservation Association raising funds for HHH

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Big Game Conservation Association is raising funds for the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program. Through Oct. 1, the association will match up to $5,000 in donations to HHH when individuals donate to the program through biggameconservationassociation.com/hunters-helping-the-hungry. LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters may begin donating deer to the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program Sept. 1 at 18 processor locations around the state. Three additional processors will accept deer for the program starting Nov. 11. Hunters pay no processing costs for deer accepted by processors for this donation-driven program. Meat processors may apply for Hunters Helping the Hungry

LINCOLN, Neb. – Meat processors have until July 1 to apply for participation in the 2017 Hunters Helping the Hungry program, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. This program provides ground venison to Nebraskans in need. The application form and program guidelines are available at http://outdoornebraska.gov/hhh under Participating Processors. Hunters Helping the Hungry program continues to grow

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program continues to grow, as 2016 saw a 23 percent increase in the number of deer donated. Established in 2012 by the Nebraska Legislature, HHH is a program that provides ground venison to Nebraskans in need. It allows hunters to donate whole field-dressed deer at participating meat processors, food pantries and other charitable organizations. In 2016, a record 528 hunters participated, and Nebraskans received more than 28,000 pounds of venison. The …

I’ll be highlighting the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Hunter’s Helping the Hungry (HHH) Program on my Weekly TV Outdoor Report airing on Omaha’s WOWT 6 News this evening! I’ll be encouraging licensed deer hunters in Nebraska to support this wonderful program that helps folks less fortunate. HHH is funded completely by donations from the public.
