Fremont rec area Lake 20 to be chemically renovated

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Lake 20 at Fremont State Recreation Area is scheduled to be chemically renovated Sept. 22 to remove the existing fish population. Unwanted fish, including white perch, common carp and gizzard shad, were introduced to the lake during the 2019 spring flooding when the lake experienced severe damage. The fish renovation and restocking is the final step in restoring the lake for future recreational use. Rotenone will be applied in the lake to kill the existing fish. Because …

Portion of Fremont Lakes SRA south of Military Avenue reopens

LINCOLN, Neb. – The portion of Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area south of Military Avenue in Fremont reopened to vehicle and foot traffic on Feb. 28. It had been closed due to high flows of the Platte River and the potential for rapid changes in the area’s lake levels. Water levels on Lake 18 and Lake 20 remain high. LINCOLN, Neb. – The portion of Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area (SRA) south of Military Avenue in Fremont is temporarily closed due to high flows of the Platte River and the potential for rapid changes in the area’s lake levels. Recent flooding caused by ice jams on the Platte has resulted in some SRA lake levels to rise well above surrounding lakes. That created the potential for overtopping and erosion of low areas. More than 200 volunteers assist with cleanup at Fremont Lakes SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area officially re-opened to the public May 1 – in no small part, Nebraska Game and Parks staff members say, due to the efforts of a hard-working group of volunteers. On April 27, roughly 250 people showed up at a volunteer cleanup day, removing debris, garbage, sticks and logs. They also planted flowers, painted, and removed flowerbeds. LINCOLN – Join Dennis Ferraro, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln herpetologist, for his program “Meet the Snakes of Nebraska Up Close and in Person” at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area on Sept. 11. Ferraro will display and discuss snakes that call Nebraska home from 2 to 4 p.m. at the park’s group lodge. Fremont Lakes SRA is located just west of Fremont in Dodge County. Double Boat Ramp Open at Victory Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. – A new double boat ramp at Victory Lake is now open at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area (SRA). The ramp replaces one that had become unusable.
