LINCOLN, Neb. – The world of a Plains soldier will come to life May 4-5 at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park during the annual spring muster. At this event, themed Garrisons of the Frontier: Soldiering on the Northern Plains 1865-1870, reenactors will portray a soldier’s daily activities, including marching and standing guard, parade and inspection, cannon firings, barracks life and soldier antics. LINCOLN, Neb. – Enjoy a weekend of history reenactment Aug. 25-26 at central Nebraska’s Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. The weekend, themed Braves and Bluecoats: Indians and the Army on the Great Plains, will include reenactors portraying roles of the fort in the 1870s. LINCOLN, Neb. – Enjoy a day of history and food July 15 at central Nebraska’s Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. A Dutch oven cooking demonstration will begin at 10:30 a.m., with three recipes available to sample. Humanities Nebraska will host a 3 p.m. program by author Jeff Barnes on his latest book, “Nebraska’s Landmark Buildings.” The park is located 6 miles southeast of Burwell in Valley County. LINCOLN – Enjoy a buffalo stew dinner and presentation about Confederate guerrilla Jesse James at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park on Oct. 9. LINCOLN – Enjoy a movie under the stars at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park on July 22 with the screening of “The Trial of Standing Bear.” The movie, which begins at 9:30 p.m., tells the story of Ponca chief Standing Bear’s 1879 trial, in which he successfully argued that a Native American was a “person” under the law. Birds at the Fort Event Set for June 4

LINCOLN – Spend a morning with the birds at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park’s (SHP) Birds at the Fort event on June 4. Beginning at 9 a.m., participants will receive hands-on instruction on how to identify local bird species and how to choose and use binoculars.
