Spring Trout Stocking 2015

I know the spring trout stocking schedule went out in a news release last Friday, but my phone continues to ring, the weather is nice, and folks are ready to go fishing!  We have a lot of fish out there already, you do NOT have to wait for the stocking truck before going fishing, but the put & take trout stocking is very popular especially for young anglers and beginners, so look this list over and then GO FISH!  Stocking …

Second Season

We have had an “on again, off again” ice fishing season this year.  As the calendar rolled into February I was seeking treatment for depression after an unusually warm January had brought my ice fishing season to a premature end.  Then as it usually happens in Nebraska, the weather, the climate, changed and it got cold again and my ice season was re-born.  I was thrilled to have a second season.  Actually, with the freeze/thaw cycle that we had repeated …

Want to be a better angler?

At some point every winter our ice leaves and we typically are left with at least a few days if not weeks of “‘tweener time”–water is not hard enough to walk on, but still too cold for most fish to be very active.  I have some fishing strategies for those times and would tell you I will spend at least some time on the water every month of the year, but I still end up with some time between the …

Foreshadowing?

Following the Super Bowl, which I thought lacked in creative commercials, I was lamenting to my family that I had not seen any good fishing commercials this year either.  I have thought that many of the Rapala commercials over the years have been particularly creative and entertaining. Then I got an e-mail with this video.  I think they are taking a different path this year. . . . That is pretty gutsy, calling the shot.  We will see how that …

“Babe” Even Fishes Nebraska!

I found this on the internet, so I fully realize that many have seen this already.  I want to make sure the rest of you see it too. I know it is a full episode, 16-some minutes long, but I also know that some of you will want to watch all of it. . . . Our Game & Parks Commission’s personnel Colby Johnson and Darrol Eichner were both featured in that episode and did a really good job!  Nicely …

Adventure Report, From the Water, New Year’s 2015

As I have said before, my “New Year” starts the first day I am on the ice.  The beginning of each new ice-fishing season is my “New Year’s Day”.  This year was a little unusual in that my “New Year’s Day” occurred on the actual New Year’s Day 2015.  There had been some ice-fishing in Nebraska clear back at Thanksgiving time, but all of that ice melted and we had to wait. Our first day on the ice, my son …

There was plenty of ice at Century Link, 7 inches yesterday and maybe more by now, so we should be good to go on Saturday.  Oh yeah, the fish were cooperating too! Plan to come out, plan to get on the ice, plan to fish, plan to learn and most of all, plan to have fun! …
