Gotta Have One!

TalkingBassSpring2018

Snowing again this morning; looks like another crummy “spring” weekend.  Folks are getting grumpy and that is proof that they do not fish enough. Saw this making the rounds on the inter-webs, so you may have seen it already.  If you have not, maybe it will brighten your day just a little bit! https://www.facebook.com/uniladmag/videos/4699145376775151/ Man, I gotta have one of those hanging on my office wall!  The only thing is the voice ain’t “Billy Bass”.  Have to call her “Barbara …

Time To Get Outta the Office!

IMG_1515 (2)

Holy Cow!  I look out my window right now and the sun is shining!  Seems like we have had nothing but cloudy, damp, and cold, forever! I think this calls for drastic action! Naturally Mike would tell you to go catch a bass, should be a good day for that, but it could be a pike, walleye, trout, crappie, catfish, whatever. . . . I know this much for sure, THIS AIN’T SPREADSHEET WEATHER!  Take his advice, stop what you …

Brackets

I believe if you been reading my blog for anytime, you know I am a huge Husker fan!  It is in the blood.  Yes, I am a fan of any Husker sport.  But, as far as just sitting down and watching a sport in which I have no rooting interest for either team, I have always enjoyed college basketball as much as any.  I have played a little intramural, church league and pick-up basketball over the years, still do on …

Tweener Time

IMG_1398

Let me tell you from the phone calls, e-mails, messages, and “chatter” I have heard this week, I have come to the conclusion that there are a darned lot more people that need to learn how to ice fish!  It happens every year, the ice starts melting, we get some open water and warm afternoons, everybody thinks it is time to fish, and then they discover the water is still cold, the fish are hard to catch, and then the …

Ice Surfing

DSCN5388

If you do not ice-fish, I pity you.  Really I do. Another cold front blew through last night, temperatures are back in the teens today and folks are grumbling about it.  Many times this week I have listened to people longing for spring, warmer weather, anxious to get a boat back in the water.  Looking at the calendar, it is mid-February.  I hate to tell you, but we live in Nebraska and there may be a lot of winter ahead …

Started a new workout the other day. . . . https://www.facebook.com/pescadoresdeplantaooficial/videos/1750834808270238/ For some reason I keep getting funny looks from people.  But, I have to admit I am not getting as many from the ladies in Yoga pants as I was when I started.  You would think they never saw a guy in chest waders before! GO FISH! And, Big fish matter. EDITOR’S NOTE:  The video ain’t actually me, but it has been making the rounds on the inter-webs lately.  …

Big, big game up at the lodge!

field-sport-ball-america

Unless you live under some kind of big rock, you know that this weekend is the “super bowl”.  This year Minneapolis is hosting this great American event.   In conjunction with the big game, Rapala and a Minneapolis TV station are hosting a promotional event like you have never seen before! https://www.facebook.com/CBSMinnesota/videos/10156254630003825/ If you want to read more about it, here is the press release, NR.WCCO and Rapala Minnecentric Experience_012618. It sounds like a hoot, but I am wondering if somewhere there …

Ice Trolling

DSCN7156

Some of us hard-core ice anglers refer to “ice trolling” when we talk about drilling lots of holes and keep drilling them until we find fish.  I am a big believer in “ice trolling”. Looks like I am going to have to step up my game! Yes, sometimes ice-fisherman spend a long time between bites. Have a great weekend everyone, make sure the ice is safe, and GO FISH!

Happy New Year 2018!

IMG_0710

If you have been reading my blog for any time, you know I am whacked.  That is true in many ways, one of which is my celebration of “New Year’s”.  You see, I pay no attention to what some calendar says or when astrological New Year’s occurs, meterological New Year’s, Dick Clark’s New Year’s, whatever.  No, New Year’s Day occurs the first day I walk on the ice to ice fish each year.  Now that is a day worth celebrating! …
