Eugene T. Mahoney SP Activity Center to close temporarily

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Activity Center at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP), which houses the park’s indoor playground, will be closed April 22-26 as new carpet is installed. The playground will reopen April 27. The adjacent rock climbing facility, Venture Climb, will remain open. During this time, park guests may use the outdoor playground at Schramm Park State Recreation Area. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering a state park.

Rainbow trout stocked in three eastern Nebraska lakes

LINCOLN, Neb – Additional rainbow trout have been stocked by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in three eastern Nebraska lakes to enhance winter fishing opportunities. Standing Bear Lake in Omaha was stocked with 7,500 trout on Dec. 17. Holmes Lake in Lincoln and CenturyLink Lake at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park near Ashland were stocked with 3,000 and 3,500 trout, respectively, on Dec. 18. Game and Parks considered the ice on all three lakes to be unsafe at the …

Winter magic shows coming to Mahoney State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – One of the tallest climbing walls in the region is now open at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP) near Ashland. Special deer hunts at Mahoney SP, Platte River SP, Schramm Park SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is offering special antlerless deer hunting opportunities within Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks (SP), as well as Schramm Park State Recreation Area (SRA). Successful applicants will be issued a special access permit that allows them to hunt antlerless deer in designated areas of a park on certain dates, using specific equipment. Successful applicants and interested alternates must attend an orientation session in order to receive the access permit. …

Playgrounds at Eugene T. Mahoney SP to close temporarily for renovation

LINCOLN, Neb. – The two outdoor playgrounds at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP) will be closed temporarily starting Aug. 27 for renovation and installation of new equipment. The playgrounds will reopen once installation and surfacing are complete. Park guests may use playgrounds at Schramm Park and Louisville state recreation areas. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering these parks, including Mahoney SP.

EAB confirmed at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – Emerald ash borer (EAB) was discovered at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP) on June 6 and has been confirmed by a state entomologist. Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) staff found EAB in a baited trap at the park’s Lakeside Campground. EAB is an invasive beetle native to Asia. It kills ash trees when its larvae feed on the inner bark, disrupting the tree’s ability to transport water and nutrients. Since first discovered in the United States …

LINCOLN, Neb. – A new dining experience is coming to Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. Caddy’s Parkside Grill, located within Peter Kiewit Lodge, will open March 1.
