Most years I end up spending the 4th of July holiday with my family in Valentine.  That has been a tradition for about as long as I can remember.  This year was no exception …

Adventure Report, June 5, 2013

A couple of months ago I warned that I would be “out of the office” as much as possible.  Well, I have been; have enjoyed this spring immensely.  In fact I have enjoyed it so much that I have not given a fishing report recently.  Time to get caught up. . . . Went Fishin’

Today, the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend 2013, members of the Wagner Family who were available to go fishing – went. We sure had a great time! We fished the waters of  the Elkhorn River as well as an Elkhorn River oxbow pond in western Sarpy County, NE that a buddy of mine owns. Thanks Mark! Fine Day Yesterday on the Corne de Cerf

With yet another cold, wet weather pattern upon us here in the Heartland, I thought I’d share with you what a fine day it was yesterday on the river French Fur Trappers called Corne de Cerf, French for the horn of the elk, because of its meandering nature and tributaries. It was a nice spring day indeed to be on the Elkhorn! My buddy and I weren’t the only living, breathing things on the river this last Tuesday afternoon in April …

Nebraska Ice-fari

At no time this winter have I have been completely convinced that we were going to have a long ice-fishing season.  Yes, we have had some cold weather, have had plenty of ice to be safe, but then we have these bouts of warm temperatures.  It has been cold in between thaws, but not cold enough for long enough.  Since I have not been convinced it will last long, the past couple of weeks I have been on the ice …

Fish Habitat Enhancements at Willow Creek Reservoir

I want to show you a few pictures of some fish attractor structures that were placed at Willow Creek Reservoir this fall.  There is no need for me to describe them because the pictures show you. I will always tell you that brushpiles, stumps and a variety of other structures added to fishing waters serve mostly as fish attractors–they are cover objects that will attract fish and hold them in areas where anglers can more easily find and catch them. …

Mahoney Ice Fishing Clinic

Last weekend we hosted an ice-fishing clinic on the Century Link Pond at Mahoney State Park, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/parks/guides/parksearch/showpark.asp?Area_No=273 .  I did not publicize this event ahead of time because we had as many folks as we could handle sign up for it.  We had a great turn out and a great time, let me share some photos. Here is everyone spread out fishing: We had a variety of ice-fishing equipment and talked to folks about all of it and how it …
