No Water Needed for Hunting Canada Geese

Do  you really need water, pumps, pit blinds, lots of expensive decoys and to be part of a high-priced hunting lease to successfully hunt Canada geese in Nebraska? No, not necessarily. Field hunting for Canada geese is a ton of fun and can be very effective! It’s also much cheaper, easier and quicker than trying to establish a goose hunting spread with a boat blind on a pond, lake, reservoir or river. Waterfowl hunters establish a field spread for Canada goose hunting in a harvested corn field in …

Is Your Goose Cooked?

Hello all, Katie Stacey of Game and Parks in Omaha, NE here. It’s been quite some time since I’ve taken over Greg’s blog, but after I told him about my family’s Christmas dinner he told me I needed to share with you as well.                 This year Greg generously gave me several Canada geese he’d harvested just in time for me to be able to prepare them for my family. In order to enjoy this treat to its fullest potential I …

Goose #1138-33826

Yesterday afternoon, I harvested a large Canada goose with a leg band on it. How cool, I thought! How fortunate I was to bag a goose with a leg band! That’s never happened to me! This was Goose #1138-33826. Waterfowl bands are treasured collectibles by hunters. But, far more than being a collectible item to be cleaned up and put on a duck or goose call lanyard, reporting band numbers from ducks and geese is vital! This information gives waterfowl …

MORE CANADA GOOSE HUNTING PICS

Sharing some more pics from Canada goose hunting this weekend in Nebraska’s East Dark Goose Unit, but this time in western Sarpy and Douglas Counties along the Elkhorn River. Quite an experience! There were a lot of Canada geese around the river! I was fortunate enough to shoot a quick pic of mallard ducks on the Elkhorn as well as bag a nice Canada goose pass shooting in a nearby field thanks to a landowner friend of mine. The sights …

WHY I THOROUGHLY ENJOY THE LATE FIREARM DEER SEASON

It’s only an excuse for me to experience winter, watch wildlife, enjoy the scenery and shoot photos with a new camera … Really it is … I am referring to Nebraska’s Late Firearm Deer Hunting Season. I thoroughly enjoy it! The photos from my Saunders County expedition will sum up why. Of course, getting an antlerless deer (a whitetail doe) in the late firearm season is merely a bonus for me!
