Burn ban in effect at Calamus SRA until further notice

Because of the fire hazard created by dry and windy conditions, a burn ban is in effect at Calamus State Recreation Area until further notice. This ban includes all open fires, such as campfires, and those in any place throughout the SRA. Calamus SRA includes nearly 5,000 acres of native grassland in the Sandhills region of Nebraska. Calamus’ Nunda Shoal boat ramp to close temporarily Sept. 29

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nunda Shoal boat ramp at Calamus Reservoir State Recreation Area in Loup County will close temporarily starting Sept. 29 so that contractors can repair the damaged ramp. The ramp is expected to reopen by Oct. 1. To view an interactive map of other boat ramps available at Calamus or across Nebraska, visit Maps.OutdoorNebraska.gov/Boating. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering the state recreation area.

Calamus’ Buckshot Bay ramp to temporarily close July 13

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Buckshot Bay boat ramp at Calamus State Recreation Area near Burwell will be closed temporarily Monday, July 13 to repair the dock damaged by a weekend storm. The ramp is expected to reopen by mid-afternoon. Additionally, the storm damaged some trees at Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area near Loup City. Man hospitalized after personal watercraft collide at Calamus SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – A 40-year-old man was hospitalized when a personal watercraft he was operating collided with another personal watercraft July 15 at Calamus State Recreation Area. A 29-year-old man, who was operating the second personal watercraft, was charged with boating under the influence and reckless operation in connection with the incident, which happened just before 6 p.m. west of Little York Point on Calamus Reservoir. Calamus SRA campground has new shower house

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to Calamus State Recreation Area will find a new shower house in the Valley Vue Campground. The amenity was built as part of a deferred maintenance project. Vehicles entering the area must have a park entry permit. Permits are available at OutdoorNebraska.org, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices, and at the park office.
