Game and Parks to burn piles at Mormon Island SRA in coming days

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Hall County over the next few days. The burn is designed to help reduce hazardous fuels and small predator habitat. It also should open areas up for park management for the coming season. A park entry permit is required for any vehicle entering Mormon Island SRA.

LINCOLN, Neb. – A brush pile of storm-damaged trees will be burned at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Hall County on Jan. 22. The burn, which will begin at about 7 a.m., will eliminate fuels and small predator habitat and keep the area open for continued tree management.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Parks staff of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles, as weather allows, at several central Nebraska state recreation areas (SRA). Burns will take place at Calamus Reservoir SRA, Fort Kearny SRA, Mormon Island SRA, Windmill SRA and Victoria Springs SRA. LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles, as weather and snow cover allow, at several sites across the state. Brush piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands or from trees damaged in storms.
