Commission approves 2018 bighorn sheep season

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved a bighorn sheep season for 2018. It authorized one auction and one lottery permit for the season at its meeting Aug. 17 in North Platte. In addition, the drawing for the 2017 bighorn sheep lottery permit was held, with Frank Nemeth of Chadron the winner. There were 2,754 applications in the lottery. The application period ends Aug. 5, and the permit, the only one authorized for 2016, will be drawn Aug. 18. Applications must be accompanied by a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Game and Parks Relocates 26 Bighorns from Wildcat Hills to Pine Ridge

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on Feb. 19 relocated 26 bighorn sheep from the Wildcat Hills to supplement two herds in the Pine Ridge. Game and Parks contracted a helicopter crew to capture the sheep at the Hubbard Gap region of the Wildcat Hills. Agency staff moved the sheep via livestock trailers to Fort Robinson State Park and Bighorn Wildlife Management Area, to the west and east of Crawford, respectively.
