Some of you may have seen these short, advertising spots: Not much else to say!  It is the weekend, it is time to GO FISH!  I will always tell you that May and June are the best months for open-water fishing in Nebraska, a variety of species, a variety of waters.  Well, look at the calendar, it is that time NOW.  Do not pass “GO”, do not “collect $200”, just go fish!  Pick a water and get out there, they …

Take ‘Em Fishing 2021

RedearXbluegillhybridOct2020

As I have mentioned in previous blogs, this is the third year of our “Take ‘Em Fishing” promotion.  In previous blogs, I have mentioned the benefits to finding someone and passing your love of hunting and fishing on to them (e.g. Take ‘Em, Passing It On).  I have emphasized the importance of family in establishing those traditions. This time, let me just point out the obvious! Find someone new or someone who has not fished in a while, take ’em …

Go to School, Join a Club!

UNLFlyFishClub

Many of you were aware of and participated in our Take ‘Em Fishing challenge this past year.  Obviously, this was another way to encourage more folks, new folks, to discover angling and get hooked on it (pun intended).  Recruitment of new anglers is important for the sake of the sport and for the sake of our fisheries resources! I have also always been a proponent of fishing organizations as a great way for anglers to meet other anglers and learn …

Our Take ’em Fishing challenge has been completed, all the prizes have been distributed.  Let me share a few statistics with you: We had 4,270 entries from 3,547 people.  Most participants just entered once, but some entered multiple times.  The most entries by one person was sixteen. Forty-four percent of the entries were for first-time anglers.  Of course, most of those first-timers were kids, but some folks took their spouses and 4% even took a brother or sister! Twenty-four percent …
