Access Updates

EF20150721_146

I have a couple, three news releases I want to highlight.  These all deal with access to different fisheries and I know the news is making the rounds.  Yes, many of you already know about these.  But, I learned a long time ago that when a person thinks word has gotten around to everyone, it has not.  So, if you already know about these, just ignore me.  If not, this will affect some of your fall fishing: Calamus Reservoir boat …

Repairs

PB010004

You all know that we had some crazy flooding around the state a couple of years ago.  I am sure you are also aware that it has taken some time to repair and recover from the damage.  Some of that work has not been finished yet. Disaster funding is great, but it can take a while to come through.  Seems like everything takes longer right now.  However, I recently drove by a couple of places where we have been able …

Aquatic habitat and sediment maintenance project to begin at Wagon Train Reservoir

NGPC Latest News logo

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will lower the water level at Wagon Train Reservoir 8 feet in preparation for the maintenance of the sediment basins later this fall. Visitors can expect the boat ramp and construction areas to be closed. The reservoir has experienced the degrading effects of sedimentation and the nutrients that come with it. That combination partially has been responsible for blue-green algae blooms in recent years. The project will reestablish the sediment dike …

Back in Blue

Blue Lake

In the past couple of years we have seen water levels in the sandhills unlike anything any of us remember.  Roads have been closed, valleys have been flooded, water has been everywhere.  I would not say water levels are low now, it is all relative.  Certainly they are lower. So, I want to spread the word on this: Blue Lake reopens after long closure ALLIANCE, Neb. — A Sandhills fishing destination has reopened after a 28-month closure. The Nebraska Game …

Boat ramp improvements completed at Swan Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. – Boat ramp improvements at Swan Lake are complete, providing better angler access to this Holt County lake. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission improved the gravel boat ramp on the north side of the lake by placing articulated concrete mats over crushed rock to form a firm concrete bottom for boat access. While still a relatively shallow slope, the 60-foot-long by 16-foot-wide ramp now will accommodate larger boats without the fear of getting stuck. A floating dock …

ElmCreek

Seriously, no “April Fool’s” in this blog post, although I have seen some good ones today.  No, I have some news updates and I ain’t fooling.  As is often the case, some of you may already be aware of these updates, but then I will get questions from folks and realize that not everyone “got the word”.  So, if there is anything I can do to let more folks know what is going on, well, I am going to do …
