LINCOLN – Sandhill crane enthusiasts are invited to visit Fort Kearny State Historical Park and State Recreation Area to enjoy the spring migration. The visitor center will open daily March 5 – April 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Staff will answer questions and direct visitors to viewing areas. Public Meetings to Discuss Possible Hunter Sight-In Range in Lancaster County

Bald Eagles Break Nest Record Again in 2015

LINCOLN – In 2015, a record 118 active bald eagle nests were documented in Nebraska by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and its partners. Bald eagles were on federal and state endangered species lists as late as 2007 and 2008, respectively. In less than a quarter century the species has gone from a nonexistent breeding species in the state to one that is relatively numerous, according to Joel Jorgensen, Nebraska Game and Parks’ nongame bird program manager. Three Positives for CWD Found in Recent Testing of Deer

LINCOLN – The presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Nebraska deer has spread eastward, according to findings by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Commission conducted a CWD sampling operation in its Northeast District deer check stations during the 2015 November firearm deer season. Three samples tested positive for CWD. Those samples were taken from deer harvested in Boone, Nance and Harlan counties. The deer taken in Harlan County, which is in south-central Nebraska, had been taken to …
