When photographing Nebraska’s great places, the moon and the sun are always welcome to the scene. Whether it be the fast-beating wings of a zigzagging teal or the earth-hammering legs of a sprinting pronghorn, a quick “trigger finger” is often necessary for capturing imagery of the region’s natural resources. LINCOLN, Neb. – The portion of Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area (SRA) south of Military Avenue in Fremont is temporarily closed due to high flows of the Platte River and the potential for rapid changes in the area’s lake levels. Recent flooding caused by ice jams on the Platte has resulted in some SRA lake levels to rise well above surrounding lakes. That created the potential for overtopping and erosion of low areas. LINCOLN, Neb. – A temporary closure on camping reservations at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area and Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area will be lifted on Friday, Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. Central Time. Reservations previously had been on hold for existing campsites during the development of the Lake McConaughy Visitor Management Plan. LINCOLN, Neb. – A brush pile of storm-damaged trees will be burned at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Hall County on Jan. 22. The burn, which will begin at about 7 a.m., will eliminate fuels and small predator habitat and keep the area open for continued tree management.
