Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – Step back in time at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park for the final Living History event of the season on Oct. 5-6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Park Events Reinstated at Fort Atkinson, Alexandria; Sandy Channel and Long Pine will Remain Open

LINCOLN, Neb. – Communities in Nebraska continue to rally around their state park areas to reinstate events and delay temporary closures. The Candlelight Tour on Nov. 2 is back on the calendar at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP) near Fort Calhoun. Alexandria State Recreation Area (SRA) near Fairbury will remain open through Oct. 20 to accommodate a Halloween event Oct. 18-19. Nebraska City Leaders Keep Arbor Lodge Events on Calendar

LINCOLN, Neb. – The living history events are back on the schedule at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park this fall. Nebraska City civic leaders have reached an agreement with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to provide resources and funding necessary to stage these and other events. Outdoor Recreationists Should Stay Away from Flood Waters

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) urge outdoor recreationists to stay away from standing or moving flood waters in western and central Nebraska. Game and Parks officers rescued a man from the South Platte River west of Big Springs on Sept. 18. Game and Parks Urges Hunters Use Approved Tree Stand Equipment

LINCOLN, Neb. – Tree stand use by hunters in Nebraska is on the rise. So is the number of injuries from the use of tree stands. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission encourages people who hunt from an elevated stand to use a full body harness/fall-arrest system approved by the Treestand Manufacturers Association (TMA). Father Hupp WMA to Close Temporarily for Renovation

LINCOLN, Neb. – Father Hupp Wildlife Management Area in Thayer County will close temporarily for a wetland renovation and development project, effective immediately. The area will close for all public activity, including hunting, and appropriate signage will be installed. The area is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Oct. 21, 2013, depending on the progress of construction activities. The enhancement of this wetland area will greatly increase its use by migratory waterfowl and provide more hunting opportunities.

Public Meeting Scheduled for Conestoga Aquatic Rehabilitation Project

LINCOLN, Neb. – There will be a public informational meeting Sept. 25 in Denton regarding the upcoming aquatic rehabilitation project at Conestoga Lake. The meeting will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Denton Community Center, 7115 Lancaster Ave. Representatives of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Flatwater Group Inc., Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Lower Platte South Natural Resource District will provide information and answer questions. AppleJack Art Show Set for Sept. 21-22

LINCOLN, Neb. – The AppleJack Art Show is scheduled for Sept. 21-22 at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City. The event runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sept. 21 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sept. 22. The art show is a celebration of art and features artists from Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. A park entry permit is required. The art show is one of many events scheduled for the annual AppleJack Festival in Nebraska City.

Family Rendezvous and Muzzleloader Sight-In Oct. 13

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Family Rendezvous and Muzzleloader Sight-In will be Oct. 13 at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River State Park near Louisville. The shooting range will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for free. Visitors may try out a variety of primitive weapons: hatchets, atlatl, tomahawks, longbows and muzzleloaders. LINCOLN, Neb. – Community leaders are committing resources to keep open Pelican Point, Oliver Reservoir, Rock Creek and Cottonwood Lake state recreation areas. These parks are among the 29 state park areas targeted for temporary closure by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
