Game and Parks Offers Reminders for Pheasant Hunters

LINCOLN – Upland bird hunters will be enjoying the pheasant season with friends and family this fall. The season runs Oct. 26-Jan. 31, 2014. Participation in Special Youth Pheasant Hunts Up Sharply

LINCOLN – Youth participation in Nebraska’s special youth pheasant hunts has increased 77 percent since the program began in 2011 and 42 percent since last year. In 2013, 392 youth participated, compared to 276 in 2012 and 222 in 2011. The goal of the program is to increase youth participation in upland game hunting by providing them an opportunity to experience a successful hunt. Game and Parks Offices Closed for Veterans Day

LINCOLN – Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices – except for the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium near Gretna – will be closed Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The aquarium is located at 21502 W. Neb. Hwy. 31. Game and Parks offices in Lincoln, Omaha, Norfolk, Kearney, North Platte, Alliance and Bassett will be closed but will reopen Nov. 12.

Walgren Lake SRA Temporarily Closed to Waterfowl Hunting

LINCOLN – Walgren Lake State Recreation Area in Sheridan County has been temporarily closed to waterfowl hunting, effective immediately, because of the intentional placement of grain on private property, creating an area of influence for waterfowl. Nebraska and federal laws do not allow the hunting of waterfowl on or over a baited area. Waterfowl hunting may resume 10 days after the bait is gone from the area.

Hunter Education Instructor Training Scheduled

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will train apprentice firearm hunter education instructors Nov. 5 at Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, 21502 W. Neb. Hwy. 31, Gretna, and Nov. 7 at the Hunter Education Office, 4817 N. 56th St., Lincoln. The three-hour workshops begin at 6 p.m. Register for the Gretna workshop by Nov. 4 or the Lincoln workshop by Nov. 6. Man Dies in Hunting-Related Incident Near Macy

LINCOLN – A 48-year-old Omaha man has died following a hunting incident near Macy in northeast Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 20. The incident took place on the Omaha Indian Reservation, where an early deer hunting season was in progress. The victim was in a five-person hunting party when he was shot in the buttocks with a rifle. He was transported to a Winnebago hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered. Commissioners Approve Additional Multispecies Permits

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Board of Commissioners created three additional multispecies hunt permits during their meeting Friday, Oct. 18 in Nebraska City.
