Toast Nebraska Wine Festival Slated for May 1 and 2 at Mahoney State Park

LINCOLN — The second annual Toast Nebraska Wine Festival, highlighting wines from 19 Nebraska wineries from around the state, will once again be held at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. LINCOLN – Indian Cave State Park near Schubert will host the 4th Annual Outdoor Adventure and Mushroom Run/Morel Mile on April 18. Commission Approves Changes to Big Game Regulations

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission made changes to the 2015 big game regulations March 20 at a meeting in Lexington. Most significant of the big game changes is an increase in the River Antlerless Unit deer permit quota from 7,000 to 12,000. This is expected to maintain hunting pressure on white-tailed deer in prime habitat on private land, where high deer herd numbers can develop the fastest. Outdoor Educational Rendezvous Set for May 8 at Niobrara State Park

LINCOLN – Northeast Nebraska’s Niobrara State Park will become an outdoor classroom May 8 at the fourth annual Outdoor Educational Rendezvous at Niobrara State Park. LINCOLN – A public informational meeting will be held in Valentine on March 26 to discuss several planned improvements for fishing, boating and angler access in the area. Pine Ridge Mule Deer Counted

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has completed the second year of an annual mule deer survey in portions of the Pine Ridge management unit in northwestern Nebraska. On Feb. 6-9, Commission employees used a contracted helicopter to repeat the 2014 mule deer survey. Commission staff counted 758 deer in 429 square miles of the unit compared to 862 in the same areas in 2014. The data will be compared to mule deer numbers in other areas of the state …

Lewis and Clark Lake SRA Acquires Fire Truck for $1

Dave Kinnamon, park superintendent at Lewis and Clark Lake State Recreation Area (SRA), has had his share of experience with fire. Before accepting his current position at the SRA near Crofton in late 2013, Kinnamon served as park superintendent at Chadron State Park in western Nebraska, where he helped to combat the forest fires of 2012.
