Living History Scheduled Aug. 1-2 at Fort Atkinson SHP

LINCOLN – Life at an 1820s military post will be depicted at Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP) on Aug. 1-2. Rooms in the fort will be open for viewing from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and interpreters in period clothing will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate various skills and crafts of that time period. Bighorn Sheep Lottery Permit Applications Close on Aug. 7

LINCOLN – Nebraska residents may apply for a bighorn sheep lottery permit through Aug. 7. One lottery permit will be issued in 2015. Residents who will be at least 12 years of age by the opening day of the bighorn sheep season may apply. Residents may apply once per calendar year and may receive one permit per lifetime. The nonrefundable application fee is $25. Nonresidents are not eligible. Applications must be received in the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Lincoln …

Campfire Christmas in July at Indian Cave State Park on July 25

LINCOLN – Families who come to Indian Cave State Park on July 25 will have another chance to celebrate the holidays with the second annual Campfire Christmas in July. Public Meeting in Kearney to Discuss Tree Removal

LINCOLN – A public meeting will be held in Kearney on July 29 to discuss invasive tree removal for upland game bird and other game management on Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area. The meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. at the Environmental Resource Center Building in Yanney Heritage Park, located at 2020 W. 11th St. Discussion will focus on removal of invasive eastern red cedar trees and grey dogwood to benefit bobwhite quail, deer, turkey and other wildlife species.

Danish Alps SRA Grand Opening Is Aug. 1

LINCOLN – Enjoy a day of family fun Aug. 1 at the grand opening of Nebraska’s newest state recreation area – Danish Alps SRA in northeast Nebraska. Activities scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. include a fishing clinic, kayaking, boat tours, naturalist activities, hayrack rides and fish-shocking demonstrations. Health Advisory Lifted at Sutherland Reservoir

LINCOLN – A health advisory has been lifted at Sutherland Reservoir near Sutherland. Earlier this month, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) detected elevated levels of toxic algae at the lake. As a precaution, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission closed the lake to swimming and advised visitors to avoid ingesting water and to keep pets out of the water. Commission Sets 2015 Early Teal Dates at July 16 Meeting in Sidney

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission set the 2015 early teal season dates at its July 16 meeting in Sidney. The teal hunting season will be Sept. 5-20 in the Low Plains and Sept. 12-20 in the High Plains. Teal hunting season dates are set to coincide with the teal migration through Nebraska, and the opening day is typically the Saturday following Labor Day. Super Tag Lottery Permits Drawn

LINCOLN – The lottery drawings for the two Super Tag multispecies permits were held at the July 16 meeting of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in Sidney. Steven Peck of North Platte won the single-entry Super Tag permit while Cory Lynch of Fremont won the multiple-entry Super Tag permit. Cabela’s Outdoor Fund Renews Gift for Half-Price Youth Lifetime Permit Program

LINCOLN – Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has renewed a three-year agreement to gift $150,000 to the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation in support of the Half-Price Youth Lifetime Permit Program. The program provides Nebraska youth, age 15 and younger, the opportunity to obtain a lifetime hunting and fishing permit with half of the cost paid by the Foundation. Lifetime combination hunting/fishing permits, fur harvest permits, habitat stamps and the Nebraska waterfowl stamp are also options for program winners. The Foundation established the …
