Repaving Project at Indian Cave State Park Continues

LINCOLN – The repaving of roads within Indian Cave State Park in southeast Nebraska continues. The road to Hackberry Hollow Campground has been finished. Currently, work is being done to the road to the Ash Grove Campground, the Cave road, and the boat ramp road. There is no access to the boat ramp at this time; however there is river access at nearby Brownville. Over Labor Day weekend, the Cave road will be temporarily open to allow access to the …

LINCOLN – Learn about Buffalo Bill’s connections to Fort Kearny at a presentation Sept. 6 at Fort Kearny State Historical Park (SHP). Game and Parks Seeks Information on Illegally Harvested Deer

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information involving a case of deer being illegally harvested in the Omaha area. In the early morning of Aug. 9 a trail camera in the Ponca Hills area took photos of two individuals – at least one with a firearm – dragging a deer. The camera was placed on private land in the vicinity of Ponca Road and Shongaska Road in Douglas County. The individuals appear to be in their …

Zebra Mussels Found at Lewis and Clark Lake

LINCOLN – Cooperation from boaters and anglers is urgently needed to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species following the discovery of zebra mussels in Lewis and Clark Lake in northeast Nebraska. Earlier this week, the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks found adult zebra mussels in a marina on the South Dakota side of the lake. Hunters Helping the Hungry Meat Processors to Accept Deer Donations Starting Sept. 1

LINCOLN – Hunters may begin donating deer to the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program Sept. 1 at 19 processor locations around Nebraska. Two additional processors will accept deer for the program starting Nov. 14. Hunters pay no processing costs for deer accepted by processors for this donation-driven program. The HHH program provides ground venison to Nebraskans in need and is funded solely by tax-deductible contributions. Pheasant Hunting Opportunities Expected to Improve

LINCOLN – Nebraska pheasant hunting opportunities in 2015 should be better than last year, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Upland Game Hunting Outlook. Mild winter conditions and timely spring rains have resulted in increases in pheasant abundance statewide. Spring rains also resulted in abundant cover, with Game and Parks staff reporting excellent habitat conditions across the state. Game and Parks Receives Grant Funding for Open Fields and Waters

LINCOLN – Public access to hunting, fishing and trapping opportunities in Nebraska received a boost on Aug. 17 with the announcement that the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
