Mountain Lion Killed in Gering

LINCOLN – A mountain lion was dispatched in Gering during the late morning of July 21, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. A Nebraska Game and Parks conservation officer shot the 60-pound female after it was reported in a residential area of the city. It is Nebraska Game and Parks’ protocol to kill mountain lions found in municipalities.

Enjoy Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson SHP Aug. 6-7

LINCOLN – Volunteers will portray life at an 1820s military post Aug. 6-7 during Fort Atkinson State Historical Park’s Living History Weekend. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, reenactors will gather to portray the fort’s military history and to demonstrate various period trades and crafts, such as blacksmithing and weaving. Bighorn Sheep Lottery Permit Applications Close on Aug. 5

LINCOLN – Nebraska residents may apply for a bighorn sheep lottery permit through Aug. 5. One lottery permit will be issued in 2016. Residents who will be at least 12 years of age by the opening day of the bighorn sheep season may apply. Residents may apply once per calendar year and may receive one permit per lifetime. LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Family Fishing event scheduled for July 20 at Lincoln’s Bowling Lake has been canceled because of expected excessive heat. The final Family Fishing event in Lincoln this summer will be Aug. 4 at Holmes Lake. Upcoming events in the Omaha area will be July 19 at Zorinsky Lake, July 28 at Benson Park, and Aug. 2 at Prairie Queen Lake. Commission accepting Applications for Gifford Point WMA Access Permits until July 31

Lincoln — Deer hunters interested in hunting at Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area this year may apply for access permits until July 31. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will authorize 200 permits allowing deer hunters access to the area. Alternate Entrance to Serve Kearney Office During Construction

LINCOLN – Beginning Monday, July 18, visitors to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission office in Kearney will need to access the building from a different entrance during construction work to the front of the building.
