Calamus SRA campground has new shower house

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to Calamus State Recreation Area will find a new shower house in the Valley Vue Campground. The amenity was built as part of a deferred maintenance project. Vehicles entering the area must have a park entry permit. Permits are available at OutdoorNebraska.org, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices, and at the park office. Jeffrey Lake WMA boat ramp to close temporarily for dredging

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Jeffrey Lake Wildlife Management Area boat ramp will close temporarily as the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (CNPPID) begins dredging operations on or about May 1. While the ramp will close during the three months of dredging, the area will remain open to public access. Broodstock collection aids pallid sturgeon recovery

LINCOLN, Neb. – Broodstock collected by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission this spring will aid in the recovery of the endangered pallid sturgeon in the Missouri River. Game and Parks and 166 volunteers collected 105 pallid sturgeon in a section of the Missouri from Plattsmouth to the south of Nebraska City in early April. Crews used 200-foot-long trotlines with 40 hooks per line baited with night crawlers. Nineteen sturgeon were shipped to Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery near Yankton, …

Valentine kids’ fishing clinic set for May 6

LINCOLN, Neb. – Area youth are invited to join the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Valentine Lions Club for a kids’ fishing clinic at the Valentine State Fish Hatchery on May 6. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the clinic starts at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Boating safety courses offered across Nebraska in May

LINCOLN, Neb. – With summer approaching, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is reminding water lovers to be mindful of the state’s education requirements for boating. Nebraska law requires any motorboat or personal watercraft operator born after Dec. 31, 1985 to complete one of the two types of boating safety courses and be in possession of a course certificate. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission adopted staff recommendations for 2017 big game hunting seasons at its meeting April 21 in Norfolk.
