Special Deer Hunts at Mahoney SP, Platte River SP, Schramm Park SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is offering special antlerless deer hunting opportunities within Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks (SP), as well as Schramm Park State Recreation Area (SRA). Successful applicants will be issued a special access permit that allows them to hunt antlerless deer in designated areas of a park on designated dates, using specific equipment. Schleuter Wins Silhouette Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. – Jared Schleuter of Milford hit 32 of 40 targets to win the 2013 Nebraska High School Silhouette Championships at Pressey Wildlife Management Area south of Broken Bow on Sept. 28. In .22-caliber rifle silhouette shooting, each competitor fires 40 shots at small metal targets. Each shoots 10 shots at targets that are 43, 66, 84 and 109 yards in distance. Wildlife Viewing Grants Available

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Tourism Commission are requesting proposals that will enhance watchable wildlife opportunities and nature-based experiences in Nebraska. Potential projects include, but are not limited to, viewing-site development, events, infrastructure, marketing, equipment and plan development. Proposals are due Nov. 25. There is a maximum of $2,000 available per proposal. Funding is provided by the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund and the Nebraska Tourism Commission. Volunteers Needed for Verdel Missouri River Cleanup

LINCOLN, Neb. – Volunteers are needed for the inaugural Verdel Missouri River Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 5. The cleanup will comb sandbars and islands for trash along a 39-mile stretch of the river. The Missouri National Recreational River and Niobrara State Park (SP) are sponsoring the event, which begins with registration at 8 a.m. at the Verdel boat ramp and ends at noon with a cookout for volunteers.
