LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters who took part in Nebraska’s 2016 fall turkey season were overwhelmingly satisfied with the quality of their hunting experience, according to a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission survey. According to the survey, which was open only to 2016 fall turkey hunters, 63 percent were satisfied with their hunting experience. The results are based on 1,114 responses. LINCOLN, Neb. – A firearm sight-in range is being built at Killdeer Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster County. It is designed as a safe, user-friendly facility to allow hunters an opportunity to sight-in a rifle or handgun. The range will be 100 yards in length. It will include a single steel bench for both left- and right-hand shooters, earthen berms, target holder with additional steel target gongs and sliding steel panels to close the range for safe operation. LINCOLN, Neb. – Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation on April 12 declaring that Nebraska is the Best Turkey Hunting Destination in the United States. The governor signed the proclamation in a ceremony at the Nebraska Capitol and presented it to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Deputy Director Tim McCoy and District 1 Commissioner Dan Kreitman of Wahoo (southeastern Nebraska). LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept applications for a 2017 bighorn sheep lottery permit beginning April 17. Only Nebraska residents are eligible. The application period ends Aug. 4, and the permit will be drawn Aug. 17. A $29 nonrefundable application fee must accompany each application. Apply at a Nebraska Game and Parks office or at OutdoorNebraska.org. The 2017 bighorn sheep season is Nov. 28-Dec. 22.
