Yesterday was an exciting day for college basketball in this state with both Creighton and Nebraska qualifying for the March Madness of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in the same region (congrats to both the Jays and the Huskers, and they may even end up playing each other!). As you may be aware, the spring migration of light geese (Snow and Ross’s Geese) is underway Nebraska, as is the Light Goose Conservation Order hunting period. Country music singer Andy Griggs was invited to hunt in the 53rd annual Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt last year. Son Pat captained the Nebraska team with Andy as team member. Andy is not only a great musician but loves to deer and waterfowl hunt. He had never harvested true Honkers so the invitation was made to return for late season goose hunting. I closed the Canada goose hunting season in Nebraska’s East Management Unit yesterday afternoon.  And, a fine afternoon hunting session it was despite the frigid temperatures! I was invited to hunt with top Canada goose calling ‘young guns’ Nick Bilava, Casey Eikmeier and Weston Cooper along with their highly-trained hunting dogs.
