Game and Parks Awarded Grant for Crop Stubble

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Environmental Trust has awarded $1.5 million to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to enroll tall wheat and milo stubble into the Crop Stubble Management, Wildlife and Water Conservation Program for three years. The program will be offered in the Upper Niobrara-White, North Platte, South Platte, Twin Platte, Upper Republican, Middle Republican, Tri-Basin and Lower Republican natural resource districts (NRD) in southern and western Nebraska. Run Wild at Mahoney State Park June 1

LINCOLN, Neb. – Run wild June 1 at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park to support the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund. Celebrate the state’s wildlife and National Trails Day by participating in Run Wild, a 10-kilometer trail run in a wild animal costume. There also will be a 1-mile run for children. State High School Fishing Tournament Set for July 27

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska State High School Fishing Tournament will take place July 27 at Harlan County Reservoir near Alma. This third annual event is open to students in grades 9-12. Wildlife to Help Reforest Pine Ridge Burn Areas

LINCOLN, Neb. – Natural resource officials in northwest Nebraska are turning to one of the oldest forms of seed dispersal to replace some of the countless trees and shrubs that were burned in the 2012 Pine Ridge forest fires. Mountain Lion Killed in Dawes County

LINCOLN, Neb. – A male mountain lion was shot and killed in the Pine Ridge in Dawes County on March 27 after the resident’s attempts to scare off the cat failed, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The resident reported the incident to Game and Parks. The resident spotted the lion while walking along a creek near his home. He estimated that the lion was about 20 yards from him. Game and Parks Seeks Information on Mule Deer Case

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information in an investigation of deer shot and left in Red Willow County. Between March 20 and March 22, three mule deer were shot and left near an abandoned farm northwest of Indianola. One of the deer was left alive but injured when a conservation officer investigated the site March 23.
