Prescribed burns planned for some WMAs, state park areas

LINCOLN, Neb. – Prescribed burns are planned on some Nebraska Game and Parks Commission wildlife management areas (WMA), state parks (SP), state recreation areas (SRA) and state historical parks (SHP) where weather conditions allow. Historically, wildlife habitats were shaped by wildfires that occurred throughout the year. Burns during the fall and winter can help set back undesirable plants that invade native woodlands and prairies, as well as other grass and wooded areas. Wetland conditions improve across most of Nebraska

Commission to consider changes to fisheries regulations at Kearney meeting

Two Omaha rainbow trout stockings rescheduled

LINCOLN, Neb. – Catchable-size rainbow trout will be stocked in three Omaha waters Oct. 16. The Grove Trout Rearing Station in Antelope County will stock 450 trout at Hitchcock Park Pond, 300 at Towl Park Pond and 3,750 at Standing Bear Lake. The stockings at Hitchcock and Towl parks were scheduled for Oct. 15, but snow in Omaha over the weekend left the grass wet in areas where the stocking truck would have to drive. Cost-share of up to 75 percent is available to install management practices.
