Game and Parks offering two educator workshops in Norfolk

LINCOLN, Neb. – Northeast Nebraska educators are invited to participate in two Nebraska Game and Parks Commission workshops this summer focusing on engaging children in science, math, nature and outdoor learning.

The workshops will provide participants with knowledge and resources to incorporate lessons into their existing curriculum as well as develop new lessons.

Each free workshop will take place at 6 p.m. at the Elkhorn Valley Museum in Norfolk. Registration is required, and each workshop is limited to 20 participants. Participants must wear a mask and maintain 6-foot distancing.

The Growing Up WILD: Exploring Nature with Young Children workshop Aug. 18 will focus on engaging children in nature through discoveries and science. It is for educators, after-school program leaders, and in-home daycare providers who work with children age 3 through 7. Participants will receive Growing Up WILD, an educational activity guide with 21 lesson plans and three hours of approved in-service. Register at forms.gle/huRtR9JK9NYmrQJGA.

The Math in Nature Educator workshop Aug. 25 is designed for teachers of kindergarten through fourth grade and will focus on exploring nature as a tool for teaching math. Participants will explore symmetry, patterns, counting, observations and Fibonacci sequence. Participants will receive literature books, age-appropriate lessons and three hours of approved in-service. Register at forms.gle/EvkFBENo1g5uQhuJ8.
