Patience

Quick blog post today, not a lot of time, but let me make some comments:

First, some of you will be interested in this little news update:  Access to Hudson Lake has been reopened.

Hudson Lake in Cherry County reopened to ice fishing.

Hudson Lake, which is about 24 miles southwest of Valentine, is available for public recreation through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Open Fields and Waters Program. Hudson Lake is open to ice fishing until March 1, 2020.

Lastly, many of you like me have been sitting in southeast Nebraska waiting for safe ice this winter.  Current weather conditions and forecasts look like that might be a possibility.  However, let me post, again, the need to practice caution.  On many of our waters, we are starting over from liquid water, no ice at all.  It will not take a lot of cold to put on a skim of ice, but not enough to be safe!  It usually takes more cold, for a longer period than what you might expect to make it safe enough to fish.  Four inches of new, clear, hard ice, and we will be “good to go”!

Yep, I cannot wait either right now.

Just make sure you do not get in too much of a hurry.
