Start summer with fun activities at Platte River SP, Louisville SRA

LINCOLN, Neb. – Kick off the summer with some fun family activities at Platte River State Park and Louisville State Recreation Area.

— The Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River SP will have an open house May 26 from 4-8 p.m. Come to the shooting range for an evening of fun, with most of the activities free.

— Students who have completed the online hunter education certification can take a Hunt Safe Session at Platte River SP on the first and third Mondays of each month. Sign-up is available at

— Women are invited to participate in the Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman introduction to archery course on Wednesdays in June. Registration is required at http://outdoornebraska.gov/bow/.

— Learn how to prepare meals in a Dutch oven at a Becoming an Outdoors-Family event June 8 at Louisville SRA. Contact Christy Christiansen at 402-471-5547 or christy.christiansen@nebraska.gov to register.

— Shooters can satisfy their competitive side in the Rimfire Steel Plate Challenge at Platte River SP on June 10. Registration is required at http://outdoornebraska.gov/ohec/.

A park entry permit is required.
