Orozco in Omaha; Female identified as….

Big news came out of Omaha yesterday with confirmation of a pair of Peregrine Falcons on territory and possibly nesting at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha.  Yesterday, the male was identified and details about who this bird is were announced yesterday in the following press release.

As noted above, Mike Benkis captured photos that facilitated the identification of Orozco and a couple of those photos are below.

The news kept coming Wednesday morning when Robert Wells sent me a photograph clearly identifying the other bird of the pair.  That photo is below.

The band on this bird is clearly black over red and reads “17/Z”.  This bird is Chayton, a female hatched in 2014 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  Interestingly, Chayton was observed at the Mutual of Omaha building in Omaha back in January of this year and that photo is below.

Questions are being answered and dots are being connected.  We now know Orozco and Chayton appear to be the third pair that now call Omaha home.  Many, many thanks to Mike Benkis and Robert Wells for capturing photos that allowed these two birds to be identified and allowing us to share their photos here.

Cool beans, good birding!
