Your deer season in Nebraska doesn’t have to end on the 3rd Sunday in November. There is so much more time left to get out and fill the freezer and maybe even continue the pursuit of the buck you’ve been dreaming about.
Permits for the December Muzzleloader Season are unlimited. There are several units that have Seasons Choice Antlerless Only permits available, too – which is good news for those that have already bought their two “buck permits”. Additionally, those of us that are holding onto an unfilled Statewide Whitetail Buck or Youth Permit can take to the field during the month-long Muzzleloader Season. You only have to swap the breech-loading, centerfire rifle for the muzzleloading variety.
Now tactics may need to change some to score during December as the peak of rut activity has slowed. But there are some great opportunities for those that know how take advantage of the what the month has to offer. If you are interested in learning the ins-and-outs of deer hunting with a muzzleloader, you are in luck. The NGPC is hosting a Learn to Hunt workshop on the very topic Tuesday, November 29, at the Nebraska Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. You can sign up for it online by going HERE.
The workshop centers on the foundational skills and knowledge needed to be successful in December with a muzzleloader. The evening is designed for those that have little to no experience, though it will contain some tips and tactics that even seasoned muzzleloaders may find helpful.
If your interested in extending your deer season and just need a little more insight into how to do it successfully – give the free workshop a try. But a word of caution. Once you harvest a deer with a “smokepole” you may discover a new winter obsession.
