Participate in Mentored Youth Hunts This Fall

LINCOLN – Recent Hunter Education graduates have an opportunity to learn more about hunting and shooting this fall through two mentored hunting programs.

A joint effort of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Pheasant Forever and Quail Forever, these programs allow participants to take their new-found skills into the field, paired up with adult mentors.

The programs are:

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever Youth Mentored Hunt Program – This program, coordinated by Pheasant Forever and Quail Forever chapters around the state, is open to Firearm Education graduates ages 12 to 15. It includes hands-on activities such as shooting, hunting techniques, conservation and dog handling – as well as an upland bird hunt. Hunts are held across the state.

Mentored Youth Archery Program – This is open to Bowhunter Education graduates ages 12 to 17 who have not yet graduated from high school. Instructors and mentors will be paired with hunters for a full season of archery deer hunting. Mentors will show you how to scout, hang tree stands, interpret animal sign and field dressing. Program locations are in Omaha, Gretna, Lincoln, Ashland, Plattsmouth and Grand Island.

“These safe, educational programs help new hunters explore what it takes to become a successful hunter while learning about conservation, preparation and responsibility,” said Aaron Hershberger, an outdoor education specialist with Nebraska Game and Parks.
