Brinkhoff Gets High Score at State NASP Tournament

LINCOLN – Joseph Brinkhoff of Mater Dei Academy in Omaha had the day’s high score of 288 points in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament in Lincoln on March 28.

Jemma Farabee of the Expect the X Homeschool Association in Lincoln had the girls’ high score of 284. Expect the X had the overall high team score of 3,293 points.

The state’s largest archery event, which took place at the Lancaster Event Center, included a record 700 students from a record 32 schools and an estimated 2,500 spectators. NASP is an in-school curriculum covering target archery for students in grades 4-12. In Nebraska, more than 200 schools have NASP as part of their physical education curriculum, and more than 25,000 students participate each school year.

St. John the Apostle School of Lincoln won the Nebraska Bowhunters Association Sportsmanship Trophy. Omaha Mater Dei won the SACO Shootout and Lincoln North Star took second place. Brinkhoff and Averi Bott of Expect the X each won a $1,000 Nebraska Archery Endowment Scholarship and Farabee and Paul Chamberlain of Mater Dei each won a $250 scholarship.
