Snowman Building Contest at Ponca State Park

The 1st Annual Snowman Building Contest at Ponca State Park started Saturday, November 29th with extremely challenging conditions. With highs in the 60s snow was scarce. However, Lee Brogie and her granddaughter Hazel took on the challenge. They found 2 patches of snow between the new playground and the East shelter and were able to construct this 8-inch snowman with a twig nose and a leaf hat. Entries for the Snowman Building Contest will be accepted thru March 19 ( the last day of winter). Families are encouraged to design and build a snowman near the Resource and Education Center. When a snowman is completed, photos will be taken and displayed throughout the winter season in the center’s lobby and on Facebook. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place; 1st place winner will receive a free night’s stay at one of the park’s mini lodges. For information on the Snowman Building Contest and discount lodging packages, call 402-755-2284 or email ngpc.ponca@nebraska.gov.
