I suspect that some of you have already heard about this fish, but just in case you have not. . . .
First of all, you should know that the Omaha World Herald has a new outdoor webpage, gooutdoorsne.com . We, the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, have partnered with the World Herald on that page. You will find a ton of outdoors, hunting and fishing, “stuff” there and if you have not checked it out yet, you need to. Look around and you will find a lot of content that you might have seen already, things like some of my blog posts, but there is a lot more.
For example, you need to check out this story about a mammoth crappie that was caught through the ice this winter from a Nebraska farm pond, Angler Wasn’t Reeling for a Record . While you are at it, make sure you watch the short video of the fish before it was released:
Subsequently, I have seen pictures of the fish and the story mentioned on some nationwide websites, Field & Stream Field Notes. Excellent!
You will see my name mentioned in the story. I communicated with both the anglers and the World Herald writer who wrote the story. I can tell you they were a couple of very excited anglers and they should be! I suspect the fish would have been just a little short of being a state record, but who knows? I know this much, Andy Moore did not care; all he cared about was releasing that fish in the best condition possible so someone else would have a chance to catch it! For that I applaud him and if he wants to brag about releasing a state record crappie, I will help him brag!
Congratulations, Andy. Well Done!
