Mahoney State Park to Host Winterfest Olympics, Disc Golf Tournament

LINCOLN – The Winterfest Olympics are coming to Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP).

On Saturday Jan. 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., park staff will guide youth through outdoor activities including archery, slingshot shooting, fishing, sled-racing and more.

The seven activities, which are geared toward children between 5 and 10 years old, are free and open to the public. Participants will receive medals upon completion of all seven activities.

Also on Jan. 4 at 1 p.m., Mahoney SP will host its first ever wintertime disc golf tournament. The event is open to both adults and kids, and the park will loan discs to participants who don’t have their own. Registration is $10, with proceeds benefitting Hunters Helping the Hungry, a new Nebraska Game and Parks Commission program that allows for the distribution of donated venison at food pantries across the state.

Advance registration is recommended, but not required. To register, call the park at 402-944-2523, ext. 7340.

A park entry permit is required for each vehicle entering the park.
