Julie Geiser is Game and Parks’ new Regional Public Information Officer
who will be located in North Platte. Her position will cover west-central, western and southwest Nebraska and began Jan. 14. Geiser’s duties include: community relations, media relations, public information, photography and writing for NEBRASKAland and all agency media.
Geiser is an avid outdoor enthusiast and has enjoyed doing many outdoor activities for more than 30 years with family, friends and those new to outdoor activities. Geiser has coordinated the “Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW)” program for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission along with serving on the BOW committee for several years. Through The BOW program, Geiser helps promote the outdoors to women. Her passion is sharing her knowledge about various outdoor endeavors with those who are interested in learning and getting involved in outdoor activities. Geiser’s enthusiasm for the outdoors and teaching others what the outdoors has to offer is always apparent. She has educated many youth and adults as an instructor for the Nebraska Hunter Education and Bow Hunter Education programs. Geiser is an experienced markswoman and frequently demonstrates and shares her skills with the rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, handgun, crossbow and compound bow. She can also be found in the field, hunting everything from upland and small game, waterfowl, turkey, deer, antelope and elk. Fishing, ice fishing, camping, kayaking and many other outdoor activities draw her interest and fill her outdoor calendar and list of teaching opportunites.
Geiser is inspired by the outdoors and also expresses her love of wildlife on canvas with acrylic paintings and color pencil drawings.
Geiser has written an outdoor column for the North Platte Telegraph for the past eight years. She said she “… hopes she has inspired others to venture outdoors and to take in all the different activities that the state of Nebraska has to offer.”
Working with Game and Parks is not a new undertaking for Geiser as she was previously employed by the commission as a staff assistant in the Information and Education department from 1993 – 2003. In that role she taught outdoor education to many school-aged youth in west central Nebraska. Geiser said her hopes are that in this new position she will “… give people the knowledge and skills to have their own meaningful outdoor experiences.”
